Gas Mileage FAQ

How do you calculate gas mileage?

Divide miles driven by gallons used. If you drove 300 miles and used 10 gallons, your gas mileage is 30 MPG.

Should I use gallons purchased or the tank size?

Use gallons purchased during a full refill after recording miles driven. Tank size is useful for estimating range, but gallons used gives the MPG.

What is gallons per 100 miles?

Gallons per 100 miles shows fuel consumed over a fixed distance. Lower gallons per 100 miles means better fuel efficiency.

Why does MPG change between fill-ups?

MPG changes with city driving, speed, idling, weather, tire pressure, cargo weight, and route terrain.
